GAME DESIGN

This was an early interest of mine. I had been designing games since I was a teenager, but it was only in my mid-twenties that I “got serious” about it. I was persuaded by Keith Poulter, the editor of The Wargamer and founder of World Wide Wargames (the original WWW, later known as 3W), to help out with editing the magazine. As a result, one of my games, Battle of the Ring, became the game for issue 1. Two other of my games were published in The Wargamer, but by 1981 I had less time to devote to wargaming as a hobby, so my involvement with WWW tailed off. In 1987 Keith moved to the USA to take over publication of Strategy and Tactics, the original magazine-with-wargame.

In 1983 I took a job with Argus Press Software, a computer-magazine-on-tape publisher. I commissioned several games for the company (later called ASP), one of which was my own game, Fall of Rome. I also published my first book, Getting Started on Your MSX, while at the company.
