The schedules given here are relaxed. They allow time to deal with unexpected problems without having to revise the whole project plan and without creating knock-on effects for other projects.

It is certainly possible to complete all these projects in shorter timescales that those give here. This, however, will require a concentrated effort by all parties, and it assumes that stakeholders can drop other tasks to concentrate on the urgent one – which seems highly unlikely.

A relaxed schedule has several advantages for the Academy:

·        The stakeholders do not see the project as an obstacle to good practice but as a part of it.

·        Stakeholders have time to identify the project as “their” project rather than “your” project, and their commitment to a good outcome will be increased.

·        It allows stakeholders to see their managers as planners who are aware that other people’s time is important.

·        Finally, a relaxed schedule allows workloads to be managed effectively at all levels of the Academy organisation, alleviating bottlenecks.
